5. Elmina Bay Resort
Overall this resort is well suited to a couple who are looking for a quiet honeymoon relaxing by the pool, spending time in their room, or visiting historical sites.
Price range: $145 - $245 per room / unit per night (including breakfast)
Overview: Elmina Bay Resort is located in the heart of Ghana’s historic Central Region. The resort is a convenient 10 minute drive from Elmina and 25 minutes from Cape Coast where you will find the infamous slave trade castles.
It is a quiet modern hotel that is clean, comfortable, well maintained, and offers outstanding sea views. In general guests reviewing Elmina Bay say that the staff are very friendly and eager to please, but that service is extremely slow. The rooms are very spacious, but without the little touches expected within this price range, such as complimentary toiletries and high quality towels and linen. Guests complain that the access road to the resort is quite rough.
Facilities: There are a variety of room sizes, each being relatively large and air-conditioned. The large swimming pool and lounge chairs offer a chance to relax and unwind. The staff at reception are happy to help arrange excursions outside the resort.
Beach access: The hotel overlooks the ocean, but there is no beach directly outside it. However, a short walk will take you to a long stretch of, sometimes littered, but very quiet public beach. There is no food or beverage service available from the hotel on the beach.
Food and drinks: Elmina Bay offers a simple breakfast, and a variety of standard local and international dishes on their a la carte menu. It’s advisable to order your meals an hour before you would like to eat. A standard range of sodas and alcoholic beverages are available.
Honeymoon package: Elmina Bay does not have a specific honeymoon package. However, they are happy to accommodate requests and will do their best to create a romantic atmosphere for you and your partner whenever possible through added extras, such as in-room service or additional excursions. Please contact the resort to discuss your preferences.
Website: Further information and contact details can be found on the resort's website.
4. White Sands Beach Resort
White Sands is by far the most expensive of all the options on this list, but worth including anyway as it meets most of the standards of a luxury beach honeymoon hotel.
Price range: $1,120 - $1,850 per room / unit per night (including breakfast and dinner)
Overview: White Sands Beach Resort is a deluxe hotel and private members’ club located at Gomoa Fetteh in Ghana’s Central Region. It’s approximately 90 minutes to 2 hour’s drive from Accra, depending on traffic.
This resort is popular with Accra’s wealthy looking for a convenient weekend escape, and has received excellent reviews on TripAdvisor and other rating sites. However, pricing for all its facilities seems to be a constant issue with numerous patrons complaining that it is “ridiculously expensive”.
Facilities: The resort offers extensive and beautifully manicured grounds, a large tranquil swimming pool, a number of different eateries and bars, and two different room types – suites and chalets.
Beach access: The beach at White Sands is accessible via a novel pontoon ride leaving directly from the hotel and crossing a narrow lagoon. It is not a private beach; however a long strip close to the hotel’s restaurant and bar is only accessible to the hotel’s guests and day visitors. Also, the resort staff diligently keep the beach free of the litter and other waste that plagues many public beaches in Ghana. As the resort is so close to the Accra metropolis, however, you may find it difficult to avoid litter and waste in the sea water.
A fully equipped restaurant and bar serve food and drinks right on the beach. The main disadvantage of this beach is that the waves and undertow can be quite rough at times, which makes swimming rather unpleasant if this is something you are not used to.
Food and drinks: Between its five food and beverage outlets White Sands serves a variety of high quality dishes and drinks. The seafood platter at the resort’s signature “Blue Marlin” beachside restaurant is a popular lunchtime choice. The pastries and desserts, available at the small coffee shop close to the swimming pool area, are a delightful afternoon treat.
Honeymoon package: White Sands offers a two night honeymoon package that includes a chalet with an ocean view, 24 hour butler service, a bottle of champagne, a romantic seven course dinner, turn down service, and access to all of the resort’s facilities (swimming pool, private beach, club house, etc.). Currently this package is available for $1,700 for the two nights.
Contacts: You can find further information and contact details on the White Sands website.
3. Escape 3 Points Eco-lodge
Escape 3 Points is the perfect honeymoon choice for a young couple on a budget looking for chilled-out island-style romance with an eco-conscious twist.
Price range: $31 - $56 per room / unit per night (excluding food and beverages)
Overview: You will find Escape 3 Points on a beautiful beach, nestled between two rivers flowing to the sea, approximately 90 minutes from Takoradi.
An eco-lodge may not seem like the obvious choice for a honeymoon as it doesn’t offer all the comforts and luxuries that a four or five star hotel does. However, Escape 3 Points more than makes up for this with charm, character, great service, consistency and a relaxed, but vibrant, atmosphere. It is a very laid back and unpretentious place, and an extremely popular get away for surfers, yoga enthusiasts, artists, musicians, and eco-conscious travellers, who all give it excellent reviews. Some guests do complain about the long, and often rough, dirt road to the lodge, as well as the furniture in public areas needing some TLC.
Facilities: Escape 3 Points offers everything from a group dormitory to a large family chalet. All accommodation is rustic and built from natural materials using eco-conscious methods. The lodge is powered mostly by solar and toilets are compostable. Activities on offer include yoga, surfing, snorkelling, kayaking, volleyball, whale watching, slack-lining, and various beach games. You can also participate in a batik workshop or a drumming class. If you visit Escape between September and March you may be fortunate enough to witness baby sea turtles hatching within the lodge’s turtle recue project.
Beach access: Escape 3 Points is located directly on the beach. This is a public beach, but is safe and mostly clean. The sea can be rough here at times.
Food and drinks: The lodge’s restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and also has an all-day menu and snacks. Meals are healthy and affordable Western dishes with a Ghanaian touch. Many of the fresh vegetables, herbs and fruit are grown organically on site, and the bread, jam, pickled vegetables, and juices are homemade. Local fisherman supply fresh fish and lobster when available. Vegetarian and vegan options are available for all meals.
Honeymoon package: Escape 3 Points does not have a specific honeymoon package, but they are very open to requests and will do their best to create a relaxing and romantic experience for you that embraces their eco-principals and the lodge’s beautiful surroundings. Whether you’d like a romantic dinner for two on the beach, or your bedroom decorated with flower petals, feel free to contact the lodge to discuss your honeymoon wishes.

2. Labadi Beach Hotel
With its location on Accra’s most popular public beach Labadi Beach Hotel is not an ideal choice for those specifically wanting a quintessential honeymoon on pristine golden sands. However it does have all the luxury facilities of a 5 star hotel; everything you might need to spoil your new spouse.
Price range: $320 - $1,300 per room / unit per night (including breakfast)
Overview: Labadi Beach Hotel, part of the Legacy Hotels & Resorts International chain, is located on Accra’s beachfront, 7km for the city centre.
Guests enjoy this hotel because it offers a tranquil environment, yet it is conveniently located within easy driving distance from Accra’s key entertainment and business areas. It does offer direct beach access, but this is onto Accra’s most popular public beach, which leaves much to be desired in terms of cleanliness.
Facilities: Labadi Beach Hotel offers a very comfortable and spacious communal lounge / bar area, a small selection of retail shops, an indoor dining room and shaded outdoor dining terrace, an indoor event space, two swimming pools surrounded by lush gardens, a sauna and fitness room, a spa, and air-conditioned rooms of various sizes, all with free Wi-Fi access. There is also a tour desk where you can book various excursions.
Beach access: It’s a short walk through the hotel’s grounds to reach Labadi Beach, Accra’s most popular public beach. The hotel has a small section of the beach cordoned off just outside its gate, with sun loungers, umbrellas, and limited food and drink service. The public beach surrounds this small section, and can provide a very interesting array of sights and sounds for onlookers, especially when crowds of revellers, entertainers, and sportsmen gather there on Sunday afternoons to socialise and strut their stuff.
Although the hotel’s small section of beach is spotless, the rest of the beach is often strewn with litter, and the sea water is heavily polluted by oil, effluent, and other waste. So, it’s advisable to stick to the hotel’s pools for any swimming you’d like to do.
Food and drinks: Labadi Beach Hotel serves an excellent buffet breakfast daily, and the on-site restaurant can provide high quality local and international dishes throughout the day. Their Sunday brunch offers a lot of choice and is particularly popular with post-church goers and families. The bar has a one of the best wine selections in Accra.
Honeymoon package: Labadi Beach Hotel has three honeymoon packages based on your choice of room. The “Standard” package includes a complimentary airport pickup (if you are flying in to Accra), a romantic honeymoon room setup, complimentary bathrobes for the couple, a bottle of sparkling wine, a candlelit dinner for two, access to all of the hotels regular facilities (gym, swimming pool, etc.), and late checkout at 2pm. Currently this package costs $375 per night.
With the “Luxury” package you get all the benefits of the Standard option, but with a larger room and late checkout at 3pm. This package is currently available for $415 per night.
For an extra special night you can choose the “Suite” package, which, as well as offering all of the above, gives you a spacious hotel suite, champagne instead of sparkling wine, and late checkout at 4pm. This package is currently priced at $660 per night.
After spoiling yourself with any of these honeymoon packages for one or two nights you can, of course, continue your stay at the hotel on their regular rates.

1. Lou Moon Lodge
Lou Moon Lodge is most certainly the best choice in Ghana for a heavenly tropical beach honeymoon. Offering Ghana’s only private beach and bay, stunning luxury villas, some of the best food in the country, and friendly attentive service, this is Ghana’s best beach honeymoon resort.
Price range: $210 – 610 per room / unit per night (including breakfast and dinner)
Overview: Lou Moon Lodge is located on the edge of Agyan village, near Axim, in Ghana's Western Region. It’s approximately one hour’s drive from Takoradi.
With its spectacular natural beauty, relaxed upmarket boutique accommodation, personalised service, and Ghana’s only private beach and bay, Lou Moon is about as close to paradise as you can get.
Guests reviewing the lodge often mention its serene setting, and frequently compliment the staff on the excellent service they provide. One thing that some people complain about is having to travel down a short piece of very uneven road, just before Agyan village, on the way to the lodge. Unfortunately the maintenance of this section of road is outside the lodge’s control. However, 4x4 vehicles can easily manage it, and the lodge is happy to arrange a transfer from Takoradi airport in their air-conditioned 4x4.
Facilities: Although it’s a small hotel, Lou Moon Lodge offers a range of accommodation. You can choose a cosy en-suite hill-side room, a spacious suite with stunning views across Lou Moon Bay, or a lavish island villa with private infinity pool overlooking the sea. The open-air dining and bar area takes full advantage of the cool sea breeze and boasts 180 degree views across the lodge’s perfectly manicured gardens and out to sea.
A number of complimentary activities are available including archery, kayaking, hiking, volleyball, boules, football, and table tennis. Optional paid activities include a professional massage, a boat ride out to sea (where you may be fortunate enough to see passing whales or orcas), and trips to nearby UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Axim Fort and Nzulezo village on stilts.
Beach access: Lou Moon’s private beach and private natural bay are its centrepiece, and worth the trip alone. There is no public access to the bay or beach at all, making this the only hotel with a truly private beach area in all of Ghana. The bay provides shelter from strong waves and currents to create the perfect calm natural swimming pool. Take a dip in the cool water, relax under an umbrella on one of the hotels hand-crafted wooden sun loungers, or choose a free activity such as kayaking or beach volleyball. The choice is yours.
Both the beach and bay are routinely swept for litter and kept spotlessly clean. Also, the dense vegetation surrounding the lodge provides natural screening from the nearby village, which adds to the its secluded and private feel. Drinks and snacks are available at the beach on request.
Food and drinks: Lou Moon’s cuisine is French-inspired and of a very high standard. Their chef uses only the best local, fresh, and sustainable ingredients with many of the herbs and vegetables grown in Lou Moon’s garden, and fish sourced from local fishermen. One of the bar’s delicious alcoholic or non-alcoholic signature cocktails makes the perfect accompaniment to the golden glow of a magnificent sunset over the sea.
Honeymoon package: The Lou Moon Lodge team is dedicated to making your honeymoon stay as special and unforgettable as possible. The lodge’s honeymoon package includes:
- Cocktail / mocktail drinks on arrival.
- A romantic dinner for two on the beach with a bottle of sparkling wine.
- A relaxing massage for two at the beach (subject to availability).
- Access to all beach facilities and complimentary activities.
Rates for this package are dependent on your choice of room, and whether you opt for the full board or half board option. For a list of room types, and the applicable honeymoon rate, please see the Lou Moon “Offers and Packages” page. To book your honeymoon in Lou Moon’s beach paradise click here.
Everyone has their own particular honeymoon wish list. I hope that at least one hotel on this list has ticked most, if not all, of your boxes. Happy honeymooning!
